20 WAYS OF SAYING 'NO'

So how do you say "no" without insulting the other person, feeling consumed with guilt, or hurting your own credibility? We need to find a way to say "no" without dragging up all of those HIDDEN FEARS -- they'll think I'm lazy or selfish, that I have no career drive, that I'm not ambitious, that I have no concern for other people. And it's time to give up all of those roles you're so proud of -- supermom, martyr, hero -- but are keeping you from finding true peace. Below are 20 ways of saying 'NO' wothout fear or favour.

1. "I CAN'T RIGHT NOW, BUT I CAN DO IT LATER"
If you really want to help the person but don't have time now, tell them so. Offer a later time or date -- if they can't wait for you they will find someone else.
2. "I'M REALLY NOT THE MOST QUALIFIED PERSON FOR THE JOB"
If you don't feel that you have adequate skills to take on a task, that's okay. It's better to admit your limitations up front than feel overwhelmed down the road.
3. "I JUST DON'T HAVE ANY ROOM IN MY CALENDAR RIGHT NOW"
Be honest if your schedule is filled -- and "filled" doesn't have to mean really FILLED! It just means you have scheduled as much as you are willing and you're stopping.
4. "I CAN'T, BUT LET ME GIVE YOU THE NAME OF SOMEONE WHO CAN"
If you aren't available to help out, offer another qualified resource. Professionals do this all the time when they refer a client to a colleague.
5. "I HAVE ANOTHER COMMITMENT"
And it doesn't matter what that commitment is. It could be a meeting or a dentist appointment or a day in the park with your kid. The point is, you aren't available.
6. "I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF SEVERAL PROJECTS AND CAN'T SPARE THE TIME"
Let people know when you have already accepted other responsibilities -- no one is going to fault you for having already filled your plate.
7. "I'VE HAD A FEW THINGS COME UP AND I NEED TO DEAL WITH THOSE FIRST"
Unexpected things happen that throw your schedule off -- it happens. So accept that you may need to make a few adjustments until your life stabilizes again.
8. "I WOULD RATHER DECLINE THAN END UP DOING A MEDIOCRE JOB"
Knowing that you aren't able to deliver a quality product -- for whatever reason -- is reason enough for turning a request down.
9. "I'M REALLY FOCUSING MORE ON MY PERSONAL AND FAMILY LIFE RIGHT NOW"
People act ashamed of wanting to spend time with their families -- like it means they don't have goals. Having a strong family is a goal in and of itself!
10. "I'M REALLY FOCUSING MORE ON MY CAREER RIGHT NOW"
The reverse is true also -- you may have to give up some civic or community duties to focus your energies on a work-related task (and that's fine, too!)
11. "I REALLY DON'T ENJOY THAT KIND OF WORK"
Who said you were supposed to enjoy your chores and assignments?! Well, if you don't enjoy them, why do them? Life isn't about drudgery and boredom.
12. "I CAN'T, BUT I'M HAPPY TO HELP OUT WITH ANOTHER TASK"
If someone asks you to do something you really despise, refuse -- but then offer to help with something you find more enjoyable or stimulating.
13. "I'VE LEARNED IN THE PAST THAT THIS REALLY ISN'T MY STRONG SUIT"
Another way of admitting your limitations. Did you know that actually makes you stronger? Knowing what you can handle and what you can't is a tremendous talent!
14. "I'M SURE YOU WILL DO A WONDERFUL JOB ON YOUR OWN"
Many times, people ask for help because they doubt their own abilities. Let the other person know that you have confidence that they will succeed.
15. "I DON'T HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THAT, SO I CAN'T HELP YOU"
Volunteering to help out shouldn't mean that you have to learn an entirely new set of skills. Offer to help out with something you already know how to do.
16. "I'M NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THAT"
You might be uncomfortable with the people involved, the type of work, the moral implications -- this is a very respectful way to avoid a sticky situation.
17. "I HATE TO SPLIT MY ATTENTION AMONG TOO MANY PROJECTS"
Let people know that you want to do a good job for them -- but that you can't when your focus is too divided or splintered.
18. "I'M COMMITTED TO LEAVING SOME TIME FOR MYSELF IN MY SCHEDULE"
Selfish, selfish, selfish! But in a good way! Treat your personal time like any other appointment -- block it off in your calendar and guard it with your life!
19. "I'M NOT TAKING ON ANY NEW PROJECTS RIGHT NOW"
You aren't saying that you will never help out again -- just that you feel your schedule is as full as you would like right now.
20. "NO"
Sometimes it's okay just to say no! Just make sure that you say it in a way that expresses respect and courtesy -- that leaves the door open for good relations.

THE PRINCIPLE PART OF FORGIVENESS

FIRST PENTECOSTAL CHURCH OF OAKDALE PASTOR T. R. KELLEY
SERIES: FORGIVENESS – A STUDY IN PHILEMON
LESSON 01: THE PARTS OF FORGIVENESS (Introduction to a study of Philemon)

READ: PROVERBS 19:11

IMPORTANT: Whether the offense is big or small, forgiveness is a process that only God can accomplish in us. Forgiveness is beyond us – it is the work of God in us.
Overlooking a transgression is to look beyond the transgression.
As we forgive, we bring glory to God, for we are never more like God than when we forgive.

I. THE PRINCIPLE PART OF FORGIVENESS
Throughout the Scriptures we are taught three basic principles of forgiveness:

A. PRINCIPLE 1: FORGIVE THOSE WHO SIN AGAINST US
READ: MATTHEW 6:12; 18:21
To forgive completely requires one of the most difficult of all adjustments, but Jesus describes it so simply. Just as we need forgiveness, so we must forgive others.
Forgiving others bears witness to the power of God over the worst that life can deal.

B. PRINCIPLE 2: FORGIVE AND BE FORGIVEN
READ: MATTHEW 6:14; LUKE 6:37
“We need not climb up into heaven to see whether our sins are forgiven. Let us look into our hearts and see if we can forgive others.” – Thomas Watson
IMPORTANT: All people are on common ground as sinners in need of God’s forgiveness. If we don’t forgive others, we are in fact denying and rejecting God’s forgiveness of us (see Ephesians 4:32; Colossians 3:13).

C. PRINCIPLE 3: DON’T FORGIVE AND YOU WON’T BE FORGIVEN
READ: MATTHEW 6:15; MARK 11:25
There are petitions for the believer to ask from God, but there are also conditions for the answers to be received.
PASTORAL NOTE: If a person becomes bitter and angry over a wrong done, prayer is impossible. God wants us to deal with our “horizontal” relationships in order to have a clear “vertical” relationship (see also Matthew 5:23-24).
IMPORTANT: For a person to pray while bearing a grudge is like a tree sprouting leaves and bearing no fruit (Mark 11:13). True faith changes the heart. Real prayer dismantles pride and vengeance, filling the holes with love. Real faith seeks peace. For our churches to have prayer power, there must be harmony and forgiveness evident in the body of believers. Let go of hurts, abandon grudges, and forgive others.
As principle-centered people, we are called upon again and again to forgive. The principles of forgiveness are given priority throughout the scriptures to be placed into practice.

II. THE PARABLE PART OF FORGIVENESS
Jesus reminds us of the practice of forgiveness through parables. In two parables Jesus points us to forgive like God and not like man. Someone has said, “We are never more like God than when we can forgive others.”

A. FORGIVING LIKE GOD – THE PRODIGAL SON
READ: LUKE 15:18-20
Jesus shows us the heart of the one who is willing to forgive – eager, not reluctant – he doesn’t even wait for the sinner to get home.
Jesus shows us the heart of the Father who forgives – eagerly, totally forgive (not just tolerate), and forgive lavishly.

B. UNFORGIVING LIKE MAN – THE UNFORGIVING SERVANT
READ: MATTHEW 18:26-30
Man nurses grudges, and God eagerly forgives and restores.
Man keeps score, God totally and lavishly forgives and forgets.

III. THE PERSONAL PART OF FORGIVENESS
Taking the principles and parables we come to the personal part of forgiveness. It is not enough to have some good rules and a nice story or two – forgiveness is personal.

A. PHILEMON IN PANORAMA (BRIEF)
1. Philemon was saved through the ministry of Paul.
2. Philemon was a slave owner, a common practice in Paul’s day.
3. Onesimus was a slave of Philemon’s and he stole from Philemon, running away to Rome (verse 17).
4. Onesimus encounters Paul and is led to salvation (verse 10).
5. Onesimus is sent back to Philemon with letter in hand (verse 12).

B. PHILEMON IN PURPOSE
Forgiveness seems to be the over-arching purpose for personal application in the book of Philemon, though other purposes can be viewed.
1. Purpose of the Nature of Christian Love – Forgiveness is fleshed out by love.
2. Purpose of the Providential Care of God – Forgiveness is one of the great acts of God’s care.
3. Purpose of the Principles for Christian Relations – Forgiveness reconciles and restores relations.

C. PHILEMON IN PERSONAL
In the next three lessons, forgiveness is going to be personalized in the way of…
1. Character of Forgiveness – what is the character of one who forgives.
2. Action of Forgiveness – what action is needed to forgive.
3. Motivation of Forgiveness – what motivates a person to forgive.
As you can tell, forgiveness is going to be brought to the forefront of our lives with the hopes that we will become more like God and forgive.

PHILIPA BAAFI LIED ABOUT HER TRIPLETS: BY DC INVESTIGATION TEAM; DC DETECTIVE GROUP.

When we first heard about the death of Philipa Baafi’striplets, our heart went out for her and we prayed that God should give her the strength to cope with the unfortunate tragedy. With a sympathetic heart, we went further to inquire about how it all happen but all the stories and articles including the personal narrations and accounts of the tragedy given by our beloved Philipa and the husband in various interviews didn’t quite add up. This made us to investigate the story further.
Philipa Baafi claimed that she gave birth to triplets on the 24thof September 2007 at Maryland, a state in the United States of America. In an exclusive interview during KwasiAboagye’s “Gospel Hour” programme on Peace FM onSunday, April 3, 2011, she claimed that the triplets had died three years ago and her husband Mr Kwame Kairikariconfirms her wife’s story in an interview with Peace FM's 'Entertainment Review' on Thursday, April 7 2011, he saidthat four months after the children were born, they became very sick and were taken to the hospital where they wereadmitted and put in the intensive care unit and were put in anincubator. Mr Kwame Kaikari said that their brain could not develop properly and some two months later, they were advised by the doctors to take them out of the incubator and see if they will be able to survive on their own, but unfortunately, they couldn’t and they died afterwards. The couple also claimed that they could not break the heart oftheir fans and Ghanaians’ who already congratulated and was very happy for them about the birth of their triplets, so they decided to keep it to themselves until most recent. They also claimed that only one closed family member and their pastor knew about the death of the triplet.
The problem with the account given by the couple is that they don’t make any sense, medically and logically and common sense dictates that there are elements of lies in it. First because it is medically impossible for a four month old baby to be put in an incubator as incubators are used only for prematurely born babies.
Secondly, from our investigation, there was no record of asingle triplet’s birth between June and November 2007 in Maryland, USA. Records show that only 27 women gave birth to twins during these periods and only one death was recorded of a baby girl on the 13th of August 2007.
Mr Kwame Kairakari recently revealed that the triplets were given birth to at Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring, 20904,Maryland, USA. We called the hospital on the 22nd of July 2011 to inquire about his claimed and the hospital confirmed that there is no record of a birth of triplet in the month of September 2007, neither was there any record of a birth toPhilipa Baafi and Kwame Kairikari.
Thirdly, how possible could it have been that she lost threebabies in a day and only one family member knew? Where was she staying in America, was it in the hotel, a friend’s place or family member’s place? And if it was a family member, is she the one family member that knew about the death? How about the family members’ names she mentioned during an interview with Regina Ani-Awukubea of The Statesman Newspaper on the 16th of August 2008 when she was asked how she was coping with her triplets she replied saying
“It is not easy at all but with support from my aunts Kate, Felicia and Hannah, they are doing perfectly well and I am very grateful to these helpful relatives. I also thank God for the lives of these kids because they - Nana Kojo NhyiraKakari, Nana Kojo Nhyiraba Kakari and Nana NhyiraKakari - will be a year old on September 24”
We are not entirely dismissing her claim, but we are calling for her and her husband to come forward and give the people of Ghana evidential and better explanation or rather tell us the truth about the story. Let also recall some of the events that took place during the time she allegedly lost her triplets. If Philipa Baafi triplet had died about six months after their birth, that will mean that they died around March/April 2008, and Ghanaians should ask her when she started her campaign trail with the NPP party in 2008 and let us not forget The July 13, 2008 Party rally at the old Kasoa Market in the central region. Did she look like someone that had lost three children in a day only three months before the live eventperformance show? Let us also ask her where she was on Thursday 20th of March 2008, because from Mr Kwame Kairikari comments stated above, the triplets were still in the incubator or had recently died as at that date and on that date, MUSEKE.COM an online media website posted an interview of Philipa Baafi and also acknowledge the presence of the husband during that interview. When asked about her triplets,she was quoted saying;
“Philipa: I wasn’t expecting it, I thought it would be two. It was a great miracle. There is a song, called WayeyiebEdoso (your praises would be a lot). I never thought it would be done, and what I didn’t think of, that’s what God has done.
They are called Nhyira mma and were born on a Monday- Nana Kwadwo Nhyira, Kwadwo Nhyira ba, and NanaAdwoa Nhyira.”

If philipa’s triplet were supposedly still in the incubator or had recently died, how were they able to give audience to MUSEKE.COM for an interview and where was the interview conducted, Ghana or the USA? If it was in the USA, that will mean they had left their triplet in the hospital or had just lost three children and still had time to chit-chat with the media or had left their triplet in Maryland, USA and was chit-chatting in Ghana.
From our investigation, we have been able to gather thatPhilipa Baafi was in Ghana November/December 2007 at thetime she claimed she was in USA nursing her alleged triplets. We made a call to Rev. Emmanuel .B. Amoah of Adabraka Calvary Baptist Church on the 22nd of July 2011 who we understood to be the pastor of the church Philipa Baafi attends. He confirmed to us that she ones attended the church but herself and her husband had stop coming over a year ago but said he is still in contact with Mr Kwame Kairikari. He also confirms that she was at the youth thanks giving programme in November/December 2007 and graced the programme with a live performance but was not sure of the exact date of the event as it was a long time ago and when pressed further for exact dates, he became very reluctant in answering questions regarding Philipa and insisted he will have to contact the husband before he will be able to answer any further question regarding their involvement in the 2007 youth programme.
The question now is why they would lie about a thing like this or could this all be about a way to get free publicity and sympathy to promote her upcoming album already been talked about or is there another reason behind this?

Teens Look to Parents as Guide to Healthy Sexual Behaviors

Who do teens look to as role models for healthy sexual behavior? According to a new Canadian study, they look first to the example set by their parents, not to friends or the media.
In their survey of more than 1,100 mothers of teenagers and almost 1,200 teens between the ages of 14 and 17, researchers found that when it comes to sexuality, 45 percent of the teens considered their parents to be their role model, compared to just 32 percent who looked to their friends.
Only 15 percent of the teens said celebrities influenced them, the investigators found.
The researchers also pointed out that the teens who saw their parents as role models most often came from families where talking about sexuality is encouraged. These teens, who were able to discuss sexuality openly at home, were also found to have a greater awareness of the risks and consequences of sexually transmitted diseases.
"Good communication within families and especially around sexual health issues is associated with more responsible behaviors," study author Dr. Jean-Yves Frappier, researcher at the University of Montreal's affiliated CHU Sainte-Justine Hospital Research Centre, said in a university news release.
Despite this finding, the survey showed that 78 percent of the moms questioned believed their children looked to their friends when deciding about sexual behaviors. And the mothers often said that they felt a lack of involvement by their child's father was particularly detrimental.
"Parents seem to underestimate their role and the impact that they have," noted Frappier. "Health professionals and the media have an important role to play in empowering parents and enabling them to increase their communications with their children with regards to sexual health issues."
The survey's findings were slated for presentation Saturday at the Canadian Pediatric Society's 88th Annual Conference in Quebec City.
Because this study was presented at a medical meeting, the data and conclusions should be viewed as preliminary until published in a peer-reviewed journal.
