Be
wise for wisdom (I Kings 3:1-15)
When God gives you a chance to
have anything in the world, what would you asked? Solomon asked for wisdom- ‘an
understanding heart’ in order to lead well and to make rights decisions. We can
ask God for this same knowledge or wisdom.
James 1: 5 says ‘If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously
to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you’.
Solomon
asked for wisdom, not wealth but God gave him riches and long life as well,
While God does not promise riches to those who follow him, he gives us what we
need, if we put Kingdom, his interest and his principles first. “So do
not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What
shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your
heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well”- Matthew 6: 31-33.
Setting
your sights in riches will only leave you dissatisfied because even if you get
the riches you crave, you will still want something more. But if you put God
and his work first, he will satisfy your deepest needs.
The more we expect our
successes to be permanent, the more quickly they are gone. In ideal conditions,
people prosper when God runs their lives. However, wealth does not prove that a
person is living right before God and poverty does not indicate sin.
In fact, greater evidence that
a person is living for God is the presence of suffering and persecution.
If you know that you still
have much to learn in life and if you have ever wished that you know more about
how to deal with people, then look to God for wisdom. While educational institution
provides diplomas at great expense, God gives wisdom freely to all who ask.
