B/A JOURNALIST BARES TEETH AGAINST EVENTS ORGANIZERS’

Journalists in Sunyani have expressed their displeasure at organizers for the first Radio and TV personality awards, Xtertic UK and Big Events GH for not including journalists from the region in the released list of nominees.
According to them it has become a tradition of most event organizers, forget the various regions when they organize events and programmes.
Speaking at news conference conference today, the journalists in the Brong Ahafo region accuse the awards organizers- Xtertic UK and Big Events GH for failing to include media practitioners in the region and other regions in the Radio and Television personality of the year award.
Spokesperson for the angry journalists Alhaji Tanko who works with Classic fm in Techiman, accuse event managers of being bias in selecting nominees.
They tell Adom news that they have also contributed immensely towards the development of radio and Television in Ghana.
They recall how the region was left out when the President met Editors earlier in the month.

GMA URGE GOVERNMENT TO ESTABLISH MEDICAL CLINICS NATION-WIDE REDUCE MEDICALLY CHALLENGE OF THE STREETS

The Assistant General Secretary of the Ghana medical association , Dr Frank Serebour has urge the government to establish psychiatric hospitals in all the regions to reduce the number of mentally ill persons on the streets.
He explains that due to the low number of psychiatric hospitals in the country there are the many mentally challenged persons rooming on the streets.
He also urge the government to train more health persons in the sector to minimize the work load at the hospital.
He notes that we should not only leave the responsibilities to government but to also citizens and family members of the mentally challenge needs to embrace their wards if they are cured from illness.
He says people should desist from abusing and frustrating family members whose ward is suffering from mental illness because just like any illness everybody would be affected.

MCE CLASHES WITH CHURCH OVER CEMETARY

The Chief Executive of the Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Assembly is on a collision course with the pastors and elders of the Gospel Light International Church over a piece of land on the Nungua Beach Road.

The MCE, Daniel Amartey Mensah, has vowed to pull down any structure the church attempts to build on the disputed land.
But the church leaders insist that they acquired the land from a chief in Nungua six years ago and have every right to develop it.

Mr Daniel Amartey Mensah has repudiated the church’s explanation, saying the land could not have been sold to the church because it had been set aside for use as a cemetery.

The MCE said there was no clear evidence they indeed bought the land from the chiefs as claimed.

He vowed that the assembly will use all legal means to stop any illegality in the district.

Cholera outbreak, one dead, 25 reported cases in Accra

At least one person has so far been confirmed dead while 25 others have been confirmed to have been infected with cholera barely 48 hours after the Health Service issued a cholera alert in Accra.
The Deputy Director of the Greater Accra Regional Health Service, Dr Edward Antwi attributes the situation to poor sanitation problems in the capital.
Dr. Antwi entreated people in the capital to be mindful about what they eat and avoid eating food exposed to flies.
He says any person who experiences frequent loose watery stools and vomiting should immediately rush to the nearest clinic for treatments.

FOOD INCREASE FOR INMATES WILL REDUCE ‘SEX FOR FOOD’

THE Immediate-Past Director General of the Ghana Aids Commission, Prof Awuku Amoah has recommended to the prisons service to increase the food given to inmates to reduce the HIV/AIDS cases in the prisons.
He explains that if the prisons service increase the daily food to the inmates there would be a drastic reduction of sexually affected illness in the prisons.
Prof Awuku Amoah says apart from sexual intercourse the inmates are also affected with the sharing of razor blade and needles.
Professor Awuku made these comments when the Ghanaian Observer newspaper publish that inmates at the Sekondi Prisons demand Gari for sex hence the increment in HIV cases in the prisons.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Public Relations director of the Ghana Prisons service, Francis Agyire Kwakye denied the publication at the Sekondi prisons.
He explains that the Prisons officer on duty make sure that the right thing are done.
He says the Prisons service has draft a paper to the government to increase the daily food for the inmates. Which will make every inmates have at least GHC2 a day.

17-YEAR-OLD GIRL THREATENS SUICIDE IF FORCED INTO MARRIAGE

A 17-year-old girl is threatening to commit suicide if she is forced to stay in marriage to her 70-year old husband.
Rita Karimu says even though she was married to the man 4 years ago at Prestea in the Western Region she has run away explaining that she had to do so because of the stress and the unnecessary pressure from family members.
Speaking to Adom News, Rita disclosed that her parents died when she was young and her uncle who found it difficult taking care of her in addition to his family gave her away in marriage to the man adding she blamed her uncle for the frustration she has been going through.
She confessed that his Husband has resisted her idea to further her education; also she has to assists in taking care of the family cattle.
She said her effort to convince family members about the marriage has proven futile as they have resisted efforts by her to end the marriage.
She narrated that her Pastor advice her to take refuge at her hometown in Bolgatanga to protest against the treatment from her husband and family members.

WHY DO MEN LIKE BREASTS SO MUCH?

STATE AND PRIVATE MEDIA COPY EACH OTHER-RESEARCH

Media gurus have welcome a recently published study by the International Communication Research Journal (ICRJ) that private press is serving as an effective countervailing force against government media’s potential domination.
Journalism and Communication research study concludes that “from a media and political perspective, the presence of a demonstrably vibrant Ghanaian press ensures that hopes for democratic consolidation in Africa remain optimistic”.
It would be recall that US president Barack Obama called Ghana media a “successful model” of democracy in Africa.
Speaking to Adom news the editor of The Heritage newspaper A C Ohene says Ghana’s media need to collaborate more to assist in the democratic process in the country.
He explains that the unnecessary competition in the media tends to impede the development of the media in the country. He recommend that media houses should concentrate more on social, economical and developmental issues rather than focusing most of their time on political issues.

The Editor of the Daily Searchlight newspaper, Ken Korankye explains that the Private media in Ghana impact on the public as it has engage them for their contributions in all issues.

POLICE ARE NOT ALLOW TO TAKE THEIR WEAPONS HOME

The Deputy Director of Communication at the Police service, DSP Cephas Arthur says the law does not permit police personnel’s are to take their weapons to the various homes.
He explains that the police personnel’s are require to return their weapon from where they book it.
DSP Cephas Arthur notes that due to the accommodation challenges of the service they sometimes permit them to take their weapons home but under strict supervision from authorities.
He gave those explanations after the news team observed that some Police men take home their weapons.

The Deputy Director of Communication at the Police service, Cephas Arthur denied that the armed robbers use weapons of the security service in their operations.
He explains that the fact that some of the police personals sometimes take their weapons home does not guarantee that they use they weapons in operations.
He says the most of the armed robbers usually operate with locally manufactured weapons and also pointed due to the numerous conflict in the sub region would amount to that.

Meanwhile, security analyst has call for a strict monitoring of the weapons to prevent weapon smuggling in the security service.

She explains that Alassane Ouattara yesterday rejects negotiation with Laurent Gbagbo offer to make him the Vice President.

COMMENTING on the committee set up to accelerate plans to convey Ghanaians back from Cote D’Ivoire, she says it of no importance for the government to set up a committee especially when about 176 people are reported dead.
She explains that government must take a bold step to immediate convey about 2 million stranded Ghanaians back to the country.

RAWLINGS URGE GOVERNMENT TO INCLUDE CIVIL SERVICE IN THE SINGLE SPINE

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has urge government to immediate mediate to help kick start the civil service on the single spine salary structure.
He made this comments after media reports that the civil service are drugging the fair wages to court over their inclusion to the single spine.
Former President Rawlings says the Civil service are unsung heroes and do not receive praise whenever the government of the day performs well.

Ghana coming to Wembley

England will play host to Ghana in the first ever meeting between the two nations in March.

Three days after the first Euro 2012 qualifier of the year, away to Wales, Fabio Capello's side will face the Black Stars at Wembley.

Ghana achieved the highest place of all African teams at the World Cup in South Africa last year, and were a penalty shoot out away from the semi-finals.

There will be a number of familiar faces on show with the likes of Michael Essien, John Pantsil, Asamoah Gyan, Richard Kingston and John Mensah all currently plying their trade in the Premier League.

There have been a handful of meetings at youth level, Ghana beat England convincingly 4-0 at the FIFA U20s World Cup two years ago, while England U18s emerged the victors in 2007 in a friendly at the Priestfield Stadium. The meeting on Tuesday 29 March will however be the first meeting at Senior level.

It has also been confirmed that England will not face Thailand in June. Although an informal agreement had been reached for a friendly match following the qualifier with Switzerland, no formal details in terms of match date or venue had ever been established and following discussions by The FA Board it was decided not to go ahead with the fixture.

Tickets for Ghana at Wembley will go on sale to englandfans members on Friday 28 January, and to the general public on Tuesday 1 February.

ECOWAS REJECT PRESIDENT MILLS CALL TO MEDIATE IN COTE D’IVOIRE

Deputy Minister of Information, James Agyenim-Boateng says ECOWAS has rejected President Mills’ call to mediate in the ongoing political crises in Cote D’Ivoire.
He explained that after their emergency meeting in Nigeria ECOWAS took a firm decision not to elect any official whose country shares boundaries with Cote d’Ivoire to mediate.
Speaking to Adakabre Frimpong Manso on Dwaso Nsem today, Mr. Agyenim Boateng said ECOWAS has also ruled out any intervention by chiefs and diplomats from nearby countries.
The African Union and ECOWAS have nominated Raila Odinga and Thabo Mbeki to mediate alongside the heads of states of Benin, Sierra Leone, and Cape Verde.
Mr. Agyenim Boateng explains the rationale for the rejection of President Mills.
CUE IN: ECOWAS REJECT MILLS
Meanwhile Ghana is not contributing troupes to the intended ECOWAS Military Mission to Cote d’Ivoire, and Mr. Agyenim-Boateng the decision was based on consultation between President Mills and his Minister of Defence, Lt. General J.H. Smith.
Ghana is already contributing 500 troupes to the UN Mission protecting President Elect Allasane Ouattara in Cote d’Iviore, and the minister of defense says Ghana’s army would be overstretched if it sent another batch of troupes to that country.

POLITICIANS PLAY IN THE MIND OF THE PEOPLE IN THEIR PROMISES

A Political Analyst, Lawyer Osei Kwadwo says politicians are hiding behind the political immaturity of Ghanaians in shifting blames to their predecessors for their inability to fulfill their promises.
He explains that it has now become a habit of Ghana politicians especially the NPP and the NDC to shift blame whenever they cannot meet their promises.
Speaking to Adom news Lawyer Osei stress that because politicians wants power at all cost they tend to use manipulative methods which includes unachievable promises.
He says because politicians play politics on any issue in the country, they are caught in the trap when they come to power.
This issue came to light when President Mills blame former Kufour administration of mismanagement of the economy for his administration inability to fulfill their promises
Commenting on whether politicians are aware of the state of the country the political analyst says in most cases they are aware of the situation but only want to deceive the people in other to win elections.
He explains that when they come to power and realize there is no opportunity for their campaign promises to be materialized they try to smart by issuing the blame on their opponents.
