GHANAIANS COMPLAIN ABOUT POOR QUALITY OF BIOMETRIC CARDS

Some people have raised concerns with the quality of cards issued by the electoral commission in the biometric registration.
According to them, the card is not of good quality as compared with the previous ones.
Some people who have just received their cards lamented the poor texture and durability of the card.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Electoral Commission, Mr Christian Owusu-Parry says they chose to laminate the cards because that is the only process people can receive their cards instantly.
He says if they want to use the plastic cards people will have to queue another day for their cards.

MRS AKUFFO-ADDO ADMITS SHE ADMIRE NANA KONADU RAWLINGS

Rebecca Akufo-Addo, wife of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party says though she is not a supporter of the 31st December, she admire and respect the boldness and perseverance of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings. She has observed that the nation’s effort to encourage more women into active politics stands defeated by the current trend of insults in the nation’s political discourse. Rebecca Akufo-Addo was addressing students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on “The Role of the Modern Woman in Politics”. She stated that less women will participate in politics if politicians continuous to trade insults at each other. Mrs Akufo-Addo bemoaned the fast decline in the number of women representation in Parliament, adding that it does not speak well of a nation that claims to be advocating women empowerment. Mrs Akufo-Addo called for a deliberate plan for political grooming of more women for political positions.

NPP EXPRESS WORRY OVER ABSENCE OF RAWLINGS AT NDC RALLY

The General Secretary of the NPP, Lawyer Kwadwo Afriye has stated that NPP are not happy with the absence of former President Rawlings at the NDC rally at Mantse Agboena on Saturday.
He says absence of party gurus to grace the NDC rally indicates that Presidents Mills has failed to unite the party as the leader.
He stated that President Mills has fuel the division by ignoring insults and personality attack leveled against the Rawlingses and former aspirant Dr Spio Garbrah.
According to him, President Mills should stop preaching about peace but initiate measures that would unite the party.
The outspoken general secretary of the NPP, pointed out that if President Mills cannot bring peace in his party then he cannot ensure Ghanaians of a credible, free, transparent and peaceful elections.
Speaking in an interview with Adom news, Lawyer Kwadwo Afriyie indicated that the NPP are disturbed with the treatment meted against Former President Rawlings and his wife.
He stress that the internal rankling in the NDC has affected the growth and development of the nation.


Meanwhile, President Mills said his “unprecedented achievements” speak for themselves and there is no need for his government to spend so much time to speaking about it. He assured the people of Ghana of better economic improvement in his next term in office.
But Sir John cautioned the NDC not to deceive themselves in thinking that Ghanaians would vote for them in the forthcoming elections.

40,000 DRUGS DISPATCHED TO UPPER EAST TO PREVENT CSM

The Health ministry in response to high reported cases of Cerebro-Spinal Meningitis (CSM) has dispatched about 40,000 drugs to the Upper East Region.
The Public Relations Director of the Ministry of Health, Mr. Tony Goodman says the ministry is concerned about the welfare of the people in the region therefore their immediate response.
Currently, a government delegation led by the minister of Health Alban Bagbin has arrived in the region to ascertain the situation.
The prompt action by was as a results of an outbreak of Cerebro-Spinal Meningitis (CSM) in the Upper East Region has claimed 16 lives in two months.
Tony Goodman confirms that that about 102 persons have been affected by the disease so far.

He added more vaccines would be dispatched to adequately cover all the endemic areas including Brong Ahafo Region.

TEMA GENERAL HOSPITAL GETS 52 MILLION EURO TO COMPETE MATERNITY WARD

The Minister of Health, Alban Sumana Bagbin has announced a 52 million Euro fund for the completion of the maternity ward and Child Health at the Tema General Hospital.
He says the government will annually construct housing unit for the nursing to solve the inadequate accommodation crisis.
He made these statements when he toured the Tema General Hospital as part of his regional tour to the regional hospitals.
He says the fund is also to expand facilities at the various hospitals that are congested. Alban Sumana Bagbin stated that the rapid measures are to help the country attain the Millennium Development Goal 5 which is to reduce maternal death.

Alban Sumana Bagbin says his ministry will prosecute health workers who extort money from patience in the quest of delivery quick service.
He cautioned that the Health sector is not a place to make money.

The Minister of Health, Alban Sumana Bagbin has announced Free Family Planning services in all government hospitals.

He says very soon the ministry will outline the programme for the take off of the programme.


The Medical Director of the Tema General Hospital, Madame Charity Sarpong says the hospital lack of infrastructure makes it difficult in the attainment of MDG-5.
She explains that the hospital `has not seen any rehabilitation since 1962 making it difficult for them to render services to the public.
Madame Charity Sarpong is calling on corporate organisations to assist the hospital.

CPP DENIES SAMIA-MAHAMA 2016 PARTNERSHIP

The Deputy Communication Director of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) Ernesto Doe-Yeboah has denied speculations that the Chairperson Samia Nkrumah will partner Vice President John Mahama in 2016 elections.
He said Samia Nkrumah is a loyal member of the CPP and would not support any other candidate or political party.
Mr. Ernesto Yeboah was reacting to accusations by the just res89igned Women’s Organizer of the party Mary Ankomah Boakye Boateng that Samia is pursuing the agenda of other political parties to enable them win the December polls and that she is selling out CPP in return for petty cash and handouts.
Mr. Doe-Yeboah said Samia Nkrumah is a much disciplined person with high moral standards.
Speaking with Adom News Mr. Ernesto Yeboah stated that Samia Nkrumah is the only competent person left in the party who can rebuild CPP into a vibrant political party.
Commenting on the much-criticized leadership style of Ms Samia Nkrumah, Ernesto Yeboah stated that the party does not see anything wrong with the leadership style of Samia Nkrumah, the party Chairman.
He stated that Samia Nkrumah is the right candidate for the job as she instills discipline in the party.

DCE ACCUSES SPOKESPERSON OF KENYASE YOUTH OF POLITICIZING PROJECT

The District Chief Executive for Asutifi South, Eric Addai has accused the spokesperson of the Kenyasi community, Adusah Yakubu of politicizing the usage of the GHC3.1Million compensation paid by Newmont Ghana Gold Limited.
According to him Mr. Adusah Yakubu is making his work difficult by obstructing his desire to use the money to construct a market centre for the residents in fulfillment of the party’s electoral promises.
But the residents say they prefer hospital to the market but the DCE insists using the money to construct a market for the community, a move the youth resisted.
The DCE who is angry by the attitude of the youth accused the spokesperson of the youth, Adusah Yakubu of being a member of the opposition NPP, an allegation Yakubu has denied.

Mr. Addai says it is unfortunate that some people are politicizing the project, describing those who are not in favor of the project as opposition of government decision.
He said to the best of his knowledge, there has never been a meeting to discuss the construction of hospital but instead an agreement was reached on constructing a market for the community.
He added that the community already has two hospitals which are undergoing rehabilitation.

Ghana Education Service Council’s states position on use of teachers in the upcoming biometric registration exercise

The Council Chairman of the Ghana Education Service Agyewodin (Prof.) Adu Gyamfi Ampem says they are taking measures to liaise with the Ministry of Education and Electoral Commission to see how best teachers could be used for the exercise without disrupting normal academic activities.

Agyewodin (Prof.) Adu Gyamfi Ampem says though the Council recognizes the importance of this national exercise, it is equally conscious of the possible effect of teachers’ participation in the exercise on the smooth running of activities of the service
The Council Chairman was reacting to statement purported to have been made by the Deputy Director-General (Quality & Access) of Ghana Education Service (GES) to the effect that, GES teachers cannot take part in the Biometric registration of voters which would commence on 24th March, 2012.
But in a Press released by council chairman Agyewodin (Prof.) Adu Gyamfi Ampem says, they will meet with stakeholders and come out with a decision.
