I don’t want NDC to be destroyed – Nana Konadu

Former First Lady and now former Vice Chairperson of the NDC, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings says she does not want to see the NDC destroyed hence her intent to contest as the flag bearer of the NDC.

According to Nana Konadu, certain happenings in the party are disrupting and breaking the NDC apart and she does not want that to happen so she wants to try to help solve those issues.
Mrs. Rawlings was speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM on Thursday about her resignation as Vice Chairperson of the NDC so she can contest President Mills for the flag bearer ship slot.

According to Nana Konadu, recent developments where certain members of the NDC meet to sign statements declaring their support for a particular contestant to the extent that people’s signatures are added even when they were not at such meetings do not bode well for the NDC because they do not promote democracy in the party and create division.

She chastised those people saying that they are not true members of the NDC hence their desire to create confusion in the party.

Mrs. Rawlings said she and her husband, former President Rawlings were constantly receiving complaints about those developments among other complaints about what is going on in the party and that is what has informed her decision to contest to try to fix things so the NDC will not be divided.

She disclosed that she is not at all bothered by all the declarations of support being expressed for President Mills saying that it will not deter her from her ambitions. She added that having conducted her own research, she has received positive responses which are spurring her on.

Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings also clarified that she had not declared that she will contest President Mills but has only stated her intent because nominations have not been open yet.
She said she wants to go according to the stipulations of the NDC constitution which allows a candidate to make declarations only when nominations have been open so she will only make her bid when that rule is enforced.

“The fact that I have resigned does not mean that I have declared my intentions, I have only stated my intent and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with making my intentions known.”

“My resignation will allow me to have time to prepare and put things in place so that I can come out fully to declare whether am ready for the job,” she added.

The Former First Lady also said she has the support and endorsement of her husband Former President Rawlings to contest for the flag bearer of the NDC.

Nana Konadu explained that she always consults her husband before taking critical decisions and revealed she would not have gone ahead to state her intent if her husband had not supported her.

“There is no way I will take an action without seeking his views, we take certain decisions together and he sometimes cautions me and advises me on every issue.”

Asked about the future of the NDC, Nana Konadu said she saw a bright future for the party and is confident the party will win the next general elections.

Is 159-year-old world's oldest man?

A great grand-father in Berekum in the Brong Ahafo region, Opanin Kwaku Dei, may very well be Ghana’s and quite possibly the world's oldest man at 159 years.

In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Kwaku Dei, a cocoa farmer told host Kofi Adoma he has seven wives two of who are deceased but has lost count of his children.

Opanin Dei, who has a slight hearing impairment but could speak clearly, said he was born somewhere around 1852.
Asked how he knew his age since he does not have a birth certificate, he said he used the farming seasons to calculate his age.

“As a cocoa farmer I used the gestation period of cocoa, which is one year to calculate my age – and I can tell that I will be 160 years old at Christmas this year,” he said.
Kwaku Dei has memories of events that took place 111 years ago, during colonial rule - from Yaa Asantewaa’s era through to the independence era.

He attributed his long life to a life of honesty, generosity, forgiveness, and being very prayerful. He advised the youth to desist from immorality and live a life of uprightness and enjoy long life.

His 72-year old daughter, Ama Yeboah, who is the third child of her mother, said her dad had all his 32 teeth intact and is still able to walk on his own. “As we speak he is sitting out here with us enjoying some fresh air,” she said.

Ama Yeboah said she had also lost count of her siblings but she alone has eight children. She said growing up as a child she saw her dad cultivate large farms and share his produce with other families in the community. “He has been a very generous man,” she said.

The story of Opanin Kwaku Dei comes on the heels of a revelation from the Guinness Book of Records that that oldest man in the world today, Walter Breuning, who was aged 114, was reported dead this morning.

Is it possible for Kwaku Dei to be the world’s oldest man?

CHIEFS CALL ON DECORATORS TO DESIST FROM USING KENTE FOR DECORATIONS.

Two chiefs say the way decorators use the kente cloth for decorations at functions brings disrepute to chiefs who wear kente to such functions.
According to them, the use of the Kente for as covers for tables and chairs at such functions also depletes the value of kente itself as a national monument.
Tema Mantse, Nii Adjei Kraku II says the rampant use of such national monuments for decorations do not help to promote the culture of the country.
He therefore cautions professional decorators and event organizers to use any other fabric apart from Kente at state and other functions for decorations.

The Kontihene of Sunyani, Nana Boaponsem urges decorators to consider the level of the function before including kente in their decorative designs.
He stress that every Ghanaian need to play a role in preserving tradition values and ideologies but not to leave it on the shoulders of traditional leaders.
