Don’t blame judiciary in Dagbon issue-Retired security Chief warns

A retired national security coordinator Kofi Bentum Quantson has said that it will be unwise for any President to come to conclusion that the inability to find lasting solution to the crisis in Dagbon,is as a result of judicial flaws.

Mr. Quantson said the judiciary cannot be blamed for the inability of the courts to find specifically who the alleged killers of the overlord of Dagbon are.

“The conflict in Dagbon has serious security implications rather than judicial flaws in the judgment,” he said.

Speaking to Adakabre Frimpong Manso on Adom Fm’s Dwaso Nsem on Thursday, Mr. Kofi Quanston said “it is easy for the security to come out clearly to say the issue is a pure criminal matter”.

Meanwhile, the former National Security coordinator has cautioned that the present political atmosphere does not mean well for peaceful elections in 2012.

Mr. Quanston said tribal inferences have the tendency to derail the nation’s peaceful atmosphere if not checked and stopped immediately.

“There are also critical issues that would ignite or be ignited if not properly managed. These relate to chieftaincy matters particularly in Bawku, Dagbon, Yendi, Tamale, Anlo, Sefwi and elsewhere, with clear or perceived discrimination and selectivity in the criminal justice system, all having the potential for settling scores ever present,” he warned.

He said the intra-party skirmishes in the leading political parties could also affect the political stability towards the elections.

He said the description of the 2012 elections by politicians and political parties as “a do- or-die affair, insults, open threats of recriminations and counter-recriminations, among other things, are all indicators of potential disputing of election results."

Mr. Quantson, whose tenure as a security officer spanned the governments of the First Republic to the Fourth Republic under the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said in an acrimonious, divisive, volatile political environment, there is the possibility that fanatical or unthinkable people could be manipulated to embark on criminal acts for parochial political interest.

He noted, people fail to acknowledge national interest ahead of tribal interest and will therefore not defend the property of the nation, but rather will die for their tribes.

ABOAKYIRE FESTIVAL IN LIMBO

There is uncertainty over the celebration of this year’s Aboakyire festival of the people of Winneba.

This is because the two warrior (or Asafo) groups in the town cannot agree on which of them is mandated to go on the deer hunt, which is the highlight of the festival.
Omanehene of the Effutu Traditional Area, Neenyi Ghartey says the Aboakyire festival slated for May 7 will not come on as planned.
He says one Asafo group has decided not to participate because they claim they are always at the losing end. They are always looted at during the festival by the other group.

The Omanehene of Effutu Traditional Area, Neenyi Ghartey says due to Political inference has contributed to the ongoing crisis in the Aboakyire festival.
He explains that some big political wigs in government residing in Winneba are to be blame for the ongoing skirmishes in the community.
Ask if he can mention some of the names of the government officials behind the incidents, Neenyi Ghartey says at the right time he will make public the names of those behind the skirmishes in the area.

However, The Tufuhene of the Effutu traditional area, Nana Otubua Siripi II has discounted claims that this year’s deer hunting festival “Aboakyire” will be called off.
He has therefore assured Ghanaians that all is set for the deer hunting festival come May 1.
According to him, the festival will go on as scheduled, insisting, the police will be notified to provide protection when necessary.

Konadu will win NDC flagbearership by 80 per cent - Teye Nyaunu

The Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo Constituency, Michael Teye Nyaunu has predicted an 80 per cent win for the former first Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings in the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) July Congress.

Mr. Nyaunu says the NDC will be the first to make history in the country when it elects the former First Lady as flag bearer of the party and subsequently as President of Ghana.

He was speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Wednesday in response to an article in the Enquirer newspaper that Nana Konadu has been shown the ‘red card’ by the NDC executives in the Western Region who have declared their support for President Mills against whom the former First Lady will be contesting.

Mr. Nyaunu denied the reportage saying that Nana Konadu has a strong support base who welcomed her when she visited the region.

He said the people of the Western Region are just throwing dust into the President’s eyes making him feel that he is on secure which of course he is not.

Mr. Nyaunu alleged that all the media reports against Nana Konadu are all propaganda from President Mills’ camp adding that if they are given level playing grounds, the former First Lady should be able to beat President Mills hands down.

But the Western Regional Youth Organiser of the NDC, Kwabena Mintah said there is no way Nana Konadu will win the July congress if she contests President Mills.

He explained that the President is on course to deliver the Better Ghana agenda so it will be in the party’s interest to allow the President to stay in office for a second term.

Kwabena Mintah reiterated that there is no room for Nana Konadu to win in the Western Region.

GES CONFIRMS WORLD BANK REPORT ON TEACHERS ABSENTEEISM

The Deputy Director of the Ghana Education Service, Stephen Adu says teacher absenteeism in the country is high, especially in the rural areas.
He explains that some teachers use funerals, change in weather conditions, and distance as excuses for not going to school.
Stephen Adu was speaking to a World Bank Report, which said most Ghanaian primary school teachers spend just 76 days out of the 196 days needed to engage pupils in direct learning activities.
The World Bank Report indicated that only 109 school days out of 197 are fully operational as teachers spent other days engaged in activities such as collecting salaries, attending funerals, and travelling long distances to their schools.
Stephen Adu stresses that teachers are not the only ones to be blamed but some students also fail to report to the classroom even when teachers are present.
He attributed the high cases of teacher absenteeism to the lack of resources and lack of strict supervision.

Stephen Adu tells Adom news that the service is seeking measures to resolve the situation.
He says GES is collaborating with the government to give additional allowances to teachers in the rural areas to encourage them to stay in the classroom.
Mr. Adu says GES is reconsidering expanding the number of hours students spend in the classroom so that they will have enough time for their studies.

FORMER PRESIDENTS CANNOT BE RUNNING MATE-OSEI KWADWO

A constitutional Lawyer and a Political Science lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, Lawyer Osei Kwadwo says Ghana’s constitution does not allow former Presidents to be nominated as a running mate for a party.
He explains that the Presidency is the highest office in the land therefore a former president is not allowed under the 1992 constitution to hold any Political or Public office after he/she serves his/her tenure in office.
Lawyer Osei Kwadwo’s comments come after speculations in the media that Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings might chose her husband and former President, Jerry John Rawlings as her running mate if she gets the nod as the NDC flag bearer.
But Lawyer Osei Kwadwo says that can never be done. He also reiterates that the constitution does not permit a President to stand again after a four-year term if he/she contested for a second term but did not win.

Nana Konadu's intent to investigate STX confirms fishy deals - MP

Anti-Corruption crusader and MP for Asikuma Odoben-Brakwa, PC Appiah Ofori has stated that Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings’ intent to investigate the STX affordable housing deal if she became president confirms fishy deals between the government and the Korean company on the project.

He congratulated the former First Lady for her decision to thoroughly investigate the STX deal, but noted that it was unfortunate that she would not get the chance to investigate the deal because “she will never be the president of this country.”

Spokesperson for the Rawlingses, Kofi Adams was reported as saying that Nana Konadu has intentions of investigating the controversial STX housing deal thoroughly if she becomes president in 2012.

Critics of the Mills government have welcomed her interest in taking a second look at the deal, but doubt if she would get the chance to probe the deal since she first has to become president.

PC Appiah Ofori said he shared Nana Konadu’s position on the STX deal
but doubts if her ambition is realistic.

He said the 1.5 billion-dollar loan for the project will have serious implications for the country, especially when viewed from the context of whether Ghana has the ability to repay the yearly 100 million dollars.

“I think the deal should be revoked because the 1.525 billion dollars will shoot the debt sustainability threshold to over 35 percent of the nation’s export,” he said.

Mr Appiah Ofori suggested to the government to complete the 5,500 affordable houses started by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, which are currently at various stages of completion.

He recalled that due to the unfavorable conditions in the STX contract, the Minority walked out from Parliament on August 3, 2010 when the STX deal was sealed by the House.

According to him, the NPP, led by Nana Akufo-Addo will take a second look at the STX deal if they win power in 2012.

He was confident that Nana Akufo Addo would win the 2012 elections easily whether he contests Nana Konadu or President Mills.

“Just mark it on the wall, Nana Addo will win the 2012 general elections whether he contests with Nana Konadu or President Mills,” he emphasised.

SATAN'S MEETING:

Satan called a worldwide convention of demons.

In his opening address he said,

'We can't keep Christians from going to church.'

'We can't keep them from reading their Bibles and knowing the truth.'

'We can't even keep them from forming an intimate relationship with their
Saviour.'

'Once they gain that connection with Jesus, our power over them is broken.'

'So let them go to their churches; let them have their covered dish dinners, BUT
steal their time, so they don't have time to develop a relationship with Jesus
Christ..'

'This is what I want you to do,' said the devil:

'Distract them from gaining hold of their Saviour and maintaining that vital
connection throughout their day!'

'How shall we do this?' his demons shouted.

'Keep them busy in the non-essentials of life and invent innumerable schemes to
occupy their minds,' he answered.

'Tempt them to spend, spend, spend, and borrow, borrow, borrow.'

'Persuade the wives to go to work for long hours and the husbands to work 6-7
days each week, 10-12 hours a day, so they can afford their empty lifestyles.'

'Keep them from spending time with their children.'

'As their families fragment, soon, their homes will offer no escape from the
pressures of work!'

'Over-stimulate their minds so that they cannot hear that still, small voice.'

'Entice them to play the radio or cassette player whenever they drive.' To keep
the TV, VCR, CDs and their PCs going constantly in their home and see to it
that every store and restaurant in the world plays non-biblical music
constantly.'

'This will jam their minds and break that union with Christ.'

'Fill the coffee tables with magazines and newspapers.'

'Pound their minds with the news 24 hours a day.'

'Invade their driving moments with billboards.'

'Flood their mailboxes with junk mail, mail order catalogs, sweepstakes, and
every kind of newsletter and promotional offering free products, services and
false hopes..'

'Keep skinny, beautiful models on the magazines and TV so their husbands will
believe that outward beauty is what's important, and they'll become dissatisfied
with their wives. '

'Keep the wives too tired to love their husbands at night.'

'Give them headaches too!'

'If they don't give their husbands the love they need, they will begin to look
elsewhere.'

'That will fragment their families quickly!'

'Give them Santa Claus to distract them from teaching their children the real
meaning of Christmas.'

'Give them an Easter bunny so they won't talk about his resurrection and power
over sin and death.'

'Even in their recreation, let them be excessive.'

'Have them return from their recreation exhausted.'

'Keep them too busy to go out in nature and reflect on God's creation. Send them
to amusement parks, sporting events, plays, concerts, and movies instead.'

'Keep them busy, busy, busy!'

'And when they meet for spiritual fellowship, involve them in gossip and small
talk so that they leave with troubled consciences.'

'Crowd their lives with so many good causes they have no time to seek power from
Jesus.'

'Soon they will be working in their own strength, sacrificing their health and
family for the good of the cause.'

'It will work!'

'It will work!'

It was quite a plan!

The demons went eagerly to their assignments causing Christians everywhere to
get busier and more rushed, going here and there.

Having little time for their God or their families.

Having no time to tell others about the power of Jesus to change lives.

I guess the question is, has the devil been successful in his schemes?

You be the judge!!!!!

I don’t want NDC to be destroyed – Nana Konadu

Former First Lady and now former Vice Chairperson of the NDC, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings says she does not want to see the NDC destroyed hence her intent to contest as the flag bearer of the NDC.

According to Nana Konadu, certain happenings in the party are disrupting and breaking the NDC apart and she does not want that to happen so she wants to try to help solve those issues.
Mrs. Rawlings was speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM on Thursday about her resignation as Vice Chairperson of the NDC so she can contest President Mills for the flag bearer ship slot.

According to Nana Konadu, recent developments where certain members of the NDC meet to sign statements declaring their support for a particular contestant to the extent that people’s signatures are added even when they were not at such meetings do not bode well for the NDC because they do not promote democracy in the party and create division.

She chastised those people saying that they are not true members of the NDC hence their desire to create confusion in the party.

Mrs. Rawlings said she and her husband, former President Rawlings were constantly receiving complaints about those developments among other complaints about what is going on in the party and that is what has informed her decision to contest to try to fix things so the NDC will not be divided.

She disclosed that she is not at all bothered by all the declarations of support being expressed for President Mills saying that it will not deter her from her ambitions. She added that having conducted her own research, she has received positive responses which are spurring her on.

Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings also clarified that she had not declared that she will contest President Mills but has only stated her intent because nominations have not been open yet.
She said she wants to go according to the stipulations of the NDC constitution which allows a candidate to make declarations only when nominations have been open so she will only make her bid when that rule is enforced.

“The fact that I have resigned does not mean that I have declared my intentions, I have only stated my intent and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with making my intentions known.”

“My resignation will allow me to have time to prepare and put things in place so that I can come out fully to declare whether am ready for the job,” she added.

The Former First Lady also said she has the support and endorsement of her husband Former President Rawlings to contest for the flag bearer of the NDC.

Nana Konadu explained that she always consults her husband before taking critical decisions and revealed she would not have gone ahead to state her intent if her husband had not supported her.

“There is no way I will take an action without seeking his views, we take certain decisions together and he sometimes cautions me and advises me on every issue.”

Asked about the future of the NDC, Nana Konadu said she saw a bright future for the party and is confident the party will win the next general elections.

Is 159-year-old world's oldest man?

A great grand-father in Berekum in the Brong Ahafo region, Opanin Kwaku Dei, may very well be Ghana’s and quite possibly the world's oldest man at 159 years.

In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Kwaku Dei, a cocoa farmer told host Kofi Adoma he has seven wives two of who are deceased but has lost count of his children.

Opanin Dei, who has a slight hearing impairment but could speak clearly, said he was born somewhere around 1852.
Asked how he knew his age since he does not have a birth certificate, he said he used the farming seasons to calculate his age.

“As a cocoa farmer I used the gestation period of cocoa, which is one year to calculate my age – and I can tell that I will be 160 years old at Christmas this year,” he said.
Kwaku Dei has memories of events that took place 111 years ago, during colonial rule - from Yaa Asantewaa’s era through to the independence era.

He attributed his long life to a life of honesty, generosity, forgiveness, and being very prayerful. He advised the youth to desist from immorality and live a life of uprightness and enjoy long life.

The Head of Graduate School of Leadership and Governance at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Dr Kwaku Osei Akom believes the electoral commission of Nigeria will conduct free and fair elections in tomorrow’s Presidential elections.
Even though Nigeria’s electoral commission has postponed the elections on two occasions due to logistics, Dr. Akom believes the electoral commission has performed creditable well in the round up to the elections.
Dr Kwaku Akom who is just returning from Nigeria says unlike 2007 where there was electoral rigging and violence in some part of the country, stated that this years’ presidential elections will be better than before.
CUE IN: AKOOM ON NIGERIA
Dr. Kwaku Akom has however predicted a first round win for President Goodluck Jonathan, a Christian from the south, ahead of his main competitor former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari who is gaining tremendous grass-roots support across Nigeria's north.

BBC reports that the people have grown confidence in the EC after the Parliamentary elections last week.
But the National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Boateng says that the Electoral Commission has performed poorly in the run up to the elections.
He explains that due to the continues postponement of the Presidential elections it will spark violence in the elections.
Yaw Boateng believes the electoral commission is to be blamed for any unfortunate events that will occur after the elections.
He caution Nigerians however to respect the results by the electoral commission.

CHIEFS CALL ON DECORATORS TO DESIST FROM USING KENTE FOR DECORATIONS.

Two chiefs say the way decorators use the kente cloth for decorations at functions brings disrepute to chiefs who wear kente to such functions.
According to them, the use of the Kente for as covers for tables and chairs at such functions also depletes the value of kente itself as a national monument.
Tema Mantse, Nii Adjei Kraku II says the rampant use of such national monuments for decorations do not help to promote the culture of the country.
He therefore cautions professional decorators and event organizers to use any other fabric apart from Kente at state and other functions for decorations.

The Kontihene of Sunyani, Nana Boaponsem urges decorators to consider the level of the function before including kente in their decorative designs.
He stress that every Ghanaian need to play a role in preserving tradition values and ideologies but not to leave it on the shoulders of traditional leaders.

Mills must resign as leader of NDC - Owusu Agyeman

A member of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the NDC, lawyer John Owusu Agyeman has called on President Mills to resign as the leader of the NDC if he intends to contest for the flagbearer position of the party at its July Congress.

Mr Owusu Agyeman who is also a former Brong Ahafo Chairman of the NDC said since the party's constitution stipulates that any member of the National Executive Committee who intends to contest for any position in the party should resign, President Mills must respect it and act accordingly.

Speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM Thursday, he said “Our Constitution says any NEC member who intends to contest in the race as the flagbearer of the party will first have to resign his position 60 days before the Congress,” he emphasized.

Lawyer Agyeman explained that the constitution makes provision for the Chairman to act in the leader's stead when he resigns until a substantive leader is elected.

Commenting on the resignation of former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings' resignation as First Vice Chairperson of the NDC, he said Nana Konadu’s resignation qualifies her to contest the party’s flagbearership slot for election 2012 as has been her intention.

He also faulted Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives as well as some party members who have made public declarations and endorsed a particular candidate, describing their action as a breach of the Constitution of the party.

Allotey Jacobs to Prez Mills : Sack KATH Boss

The Communications Director of the NDC in the Central Region, Allotey Jacobs has called for the immediate dismissal of the Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Professor Ohene Adjei, for involving himself in active partisan politics.

Prof. Ohene Adjei publicly described NPP flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as a war monger during a meeting with NDC party faithful.

But Allotey Jacobs said that was a violation of the constitution which prohibits civil servants from doing active politics. “The professor did not respect his office as a civil servant and he must be dismissed,” he said on Adom Dwaso Nsem.

Allotey Jacobs said the behavior of the professor was unfortunate and does not auger well for the development of the hospital and the country as a whole.

His call was not different from that of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Frederick Fredua Anto, who was worried that the behavior of the KATH Boss could deny the hospital of valuable support from philanthropists who do not sympathize with the NDC.

“KATH enjoys great support from institutions and individuals who do not necessarily support the NDC and when these people get to know that the CEO is doing politics they will withdraw their support and the hospital will suffer for the indiscretion of one man,” Mr. Ato said.

But the Ashanti Regional General Secretary of the NDC, Joseph Yamin insists that the KATH boss did no wrong in expressing his opinion about the “all die be die” statement by Nana Addo.

He said it was no secret that top positions in the civil service are political appointments so Prof. Ohene Adjei was not wrong in making open political statements like his predecessor, Prof. Nsiah Asare did when he was in office.

Mr. Yamin alleged that he had in the past been on a number of radio talk shows with Prof. Nsiah Asare who openly articulated positions in support of the NPP and against the NDC.

But Prof. Nsiah Asare denied ever doing open partisan politics when he was CEO of KATH under the NPP, adding that he had never been on the same panel with Mr. Yamin on radio and challenged him (Yamin) to provide evidence to support his claims.

Anthony Karbo: NDC supported Gbagbo

The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Abayifaa Karbo has alleged that the NDC supported captured Ivorian President, Laurent Gbagbo’s refusal to accept last November elections and hold on to power.

“NDC basically were on Gbagbo’s side and defended him to hold on to power even though the whole world including ECOWAS, the African Union and European Union advised him to respect the decision of the Electoral Commission.

“Even US President, Barack Obama personally called Mr. Gbagbo to step down but he refused. It is only the NDC which saw him as the winner of the November elections,” Anthony Karbo says.

Speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM Tuesday, Mr. Karbo alleged that some government officials like Deputy Interior Minister, Kobby Acheampong and NDC functionaries like Allotey Jacobs have publicly declared their support for Gbagbo.

However in a rebuttal, the Central Regional Communications Director of the NDC, Allotey Jacobs, said both UN recognized President, Alassane Ouattara and Laurent Gbagbo should be blamed for the bloodshed in Cote D’Ivoire.

He said Alassane Ouattara should have exercise patience for negotiations to have concluded so that Mr. Gbagbo would have handed over power to him peacefully but he did not.

Allotey Jacobs also blamed the French governmen for interfering in the conflict saying that the West should have allowed Africans to manage their own affairs.

But Anthony Karbo rubbished the statement stating that if we go to the West when we need financial assistance, there is no reason why they can’t also assist if there are conflicts on our continent.

He explained that European countries play a vital role in the developmental agenda of the African continent so they equally have a say at the governance level especially if there are some challenges.

About 800 people have been confirmed dead with 2 million people fleeing the country since violence erupted in the Ivory Coast following the disputed election.

Incumbent, Laurent Gbagbo’s capture on Monday by French forces is expected to aid in moving the country forward.

K. B Asante: Government officials must shut up and deal with unemployment menace

Renowned diplomat and statesman, K.B. Asante, says it is about time politicians focused on dealing with the unemployment situation facing the country instead of focusing on unnecessary arguments on radio and television.

K.B. Asante explains that politicians today only focus on talking and thinking about winning elections and how to score cheap political points rather than tackling the real issues confronting the nation.

“Now it appears all we are doing is working towards the next elections; to be elected to power, we do not channel our efforts towards the developmental issues in the country,” he added.

According to him, Ministers and government officials should stop talking to radio and television stations and instead concentrate on issues of national importance.

K.B Asante was commenting on the high unemployment rate in the country especially among graduate students on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM on Monday.

The renowned Diplomat emphasized that leaders must sit down and come out with concrete proposals and policies to deal with unemployment.

He stated that Ghana’s educational system is not the reason for the high unemployment but the failure of the nation’s leaders to create enabling an environment for employment.

He said in years past, people never held MBAs and other high qualifications but they were able to plan very well for the country’s education sector.

Also commenting on the same topic was Divine Nkrumah, the Coordinator and Leader of the Unemployed Graduate Association of Ghana (UGAG), a non-partisan organization, who said successive government had failed in creating the necessary conditions for the private sector to develop.

“The NDC government and the erstwhile Kufour administration have failed the youth of this country and continue to subject the young graduates of this nation to undue deprivation of better job opportunities,” he said.

He revealed that there are about 650,000 unemployment graduates in the country and said that meant a bona fide negligence and a disappointment on the part of the government of the day.

Divine Nkrumah said in the past, unemployment was within the ranks of only illiterates but today, it has affected JHS and SSS leavers adding that it was quite sad that tertiary graduates have also become vulnerable to this syndrome.

“It is not astonishing that the nation is currently grappling with the unfortunate situation of street hawkers, “Sakawa”, prostitution, armed robbery and other social vices which have also contributed to overcrowding on the resources of the cities,” he stated.

He warned that very soon, they we are going to hit the streets if the government fails to produce strategies to resolve the unemployment issue.

The Labour Commission of Ghana estimates the number of unemployed graduates at over 700,000 and it comprises graduates who studied from Archaeology to Zoology.

Mensah Abrampah: NDC can do without Rawlings but…

A senior fellow at the Center for Democratic Development (CDD) Mensah Abrampa has said that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) can do without former President Jerry John Rawlings.

Mensah Abrampa who is also the Programmes Director at CDD stated on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Friday that, “A strong political party in government should be able to operate in the absence of a key member of a party”.

President Mills, Former President Rawlings and his wife Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings are taking part in a crunch emergency meeting of the NDC’s National Executive Committee at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra.

The key agenda of the meeting is to set up guidelines for the party’s Presidential primaries expected to take place in December 2011.

Lots of party big bigwigs are also at the meeting which is also expected to resolve the Mills-Rawlings rift which appears to be tearing the party apart.

However, Mr. Mensah Abrampah cautioned that Ex-President Rawlings still commands support from a section of members in the party which will make it difficult for the party to totally ignore him.

He ephasised that people still vote on the line of personality traits hence, he recommends that the National Democratic Congress should find a way to accommodate him (Rawlings) in the party. This according to him, will help in solving the issue of division and the rampant complaints in the party.

Tracing the history of the division in the Party, Mensah Abrampa recalled that the Koforidua congress some time ago is the reason behind all the division in the NDC.

Commenting on the NEC meeting, Mr. Mensah Abrampa was hopeful that the NEC would be able to solve all the recent disturbances within the NDC.

He said such developments tend to effect the nation’s development as a whole and therefore advised the NDC leadership to use peaceful means to resolve their differences within its rank and file so that it does not distract the cause of governance.

In a related development, Mr. Mensah Abrampa has rubbished reports attributed to Deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwah to the effect that, “first-timer aspirants” perform badly in elections.

Mr. Ablakwah’s comments according to the reports, were to woo the Nima delegates to vote massively for President Mills instead of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, should the latter file to contest the sitting President at the primaries.

Mr. Mensah Abrampah stressed that political choice of candidates should be based on performance rather than history.

Alhaji Bature: blame NDC woes on National Security and Chief Of Staff

The Managing Editor of the Al Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Bature Iddrisu has attributed what he describes as “political naivete on the part of the Chief of Staff at the Presidency and the National Security Office, as well as incessant complaints by former President Rawlings”, as being the cause the recent violent behaviours of some NDC youth.

Alhaji Bature claims the Chief of Staff, John Henry Martey Newman is not a politician and moreover, the foot soldiers of the ruling NDC do not know him as a member of the party.

According to him, “Mr. Newman may be an intelligent man but unfortunately he is not a technocrat, he is unaware of his duties and responsibilities”.

Speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM, Alhaji Bature also hit out at the National Security apparatus saying, “The National Security unfortunately are not up to date with the current issues in the country. When the Ya-Na’s ruling was pronounced, the national security were unaware because they could have advised the President not to continue his tour in the Northern Region."

He stressed that if the recent heckling among members of the NDC coupled with numerous complaints from the NDC does not cease, then the party cannot go beyond the 2012 elections.

“If the NDC does not win power in 2012 then I’m sorry they will never come close to winning any election if they don’t put their house in better shape. With this break in communication in the party, the party cannot travel past the 2012 elections,” he stated.

He was of the opinion that recent developments in the party have the potential to turn away floating voters as some people might think that the NDC is a violent party.
