FORMER PRESIDENTS CANNOT BE RUNNING MATE-OSEI KWADWO

A constitutional Lawyer and a Political Science lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, Lawyer Osei Kwadwo says Ghana’s constitution does not allow former Presidents to be nominated as a running mate for a party.
He explains that the Presidency is the highest office in the land therefore a former president is not allowed under the 1992 constitution to hold any Political or Public office after he/she serves his/her tenure in office.
Lawyer Osei Kwadwo’s comments come after speculations in the media that Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings might chose her husband and former President, Jerry John Rawlings as her running mate if she gets the nod as the NDC flag bearer.
But Lawyer Osei Kwadwo says that can never be done. He also reiterates that the constitution does not permit a President to stand again after a four-year term if he/she contested for a second term but did not win.
CUE IN: NO RUNNING MATE
