DOCTORS TO STRIKE FOR A YEAR IF GOVERNMENT NEGOTIATIONS FAIL-GMA

The strike action embarked upon by doctors of the Ghana Medical Association continues as the doctors have refused to listen to appeals from the Health ministry resume work.
Assistant General Secretary for Ghana Medical Association, Dr. Frank Serebour hinted that the strike action may extend to a year if the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission continue in the same attitude they have exhibited.
The doctors who sounded frustrated accused the commission of failing to resolve the impasse dispassionately instead of the entrenched position they have taken.
The strike action embarked by the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has entered into the fourth day, with no sign of Doctors returning back to hospitals.
Dr. Frank Serebour claimed the Health Ministry has failed to show commitment to resolve the matter; as they have never been part of any of the negotiation meetings.
He denied rumours that the strike action was based on money.

However, the Deputy Health Minister, Rojo Mettle Nunoo explained that there were two consultant submitted reports which seem to favour the doctors but unfavourable to other medical workers.
He noted that the doctor’s agitation stems from the fact that the commission was rather using another consultant’s report which deals more with the implementation of the job evaluation assessment.
He said they held a meeting with all stakeholders to agree on the negotiations for the doctors.
