Rome was not built in a day; government will deliver - Koku Anyidoho

The Director of Communications at the Castle, Koku Anyidoho has stated that the fact that projects are not necessarily been undertaken in the nation’s capital does not mean that government is not working.

Mr. Anyidoho says government is focusing more on fulfilling the needs of the most deprived areas across the country.
Koku, who is with President Mills on his tour of the Eastern Region, was speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM on Wednesday about the visit.

According to him, the government is making sure that the developmental cake is spread across the nation so Accra cannot be the main focus;

He added that the government’s handiwork is being felt more in the rural areas where infrastructural development is going on heavily in the various districts and towns and people who have travelled widely in the regions can attest to that fact.

He cited projects that have been completed including the new Tarkwa Hospital, a new Midwifery Training School at Goaso and a Nursing Training College in Techiman all in the Brong Ahafo Region, Jirapa, Nandom, Lawra and other areas in the Upper East Region are benefiting from five new hospitals among others.

Koku Anyidoho stated that even though some people have refused to see what the President is doing, after President Mills’ first four years, all his good works will be known.

He said President Mills is not distracted by the insults and jokes aimed at tarnishing his reputation and remains focused and determined to fulfill his Better Ghana agenda in his first term in office.

He urged people to be patient with President Mills because Rome was not built in a day and that by the time the four years is over, the government would have delivered on its promises.

Koku Anyidoho however rubbished allegations that President Mills is only undertaking developmental projects in some parts of the region because it is a strong hold of the opposition NPP.

He disclosed that previously unmotorable roads in the Akyem Abuakwa constituency, considered to be NPP flag bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo’s stronghold, have been worked on, while a steel bridge has been constructed in Abuakwa Adukrom among other projects including educational infrastructure, health facilities that have been carried out or are yet to be commenced in the Region.

Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Julius Debrah also debunked the allegation saying the projects have been spread across the region and that President Mills’ visit during which he will commission various developmental projects will prove that assertion wrong.

He said even though the Region is regarded as a strong hold of the NPP, thousands of people welcomed President Mills on Tuesday when he began his visit.

Mr. Debrah also disclosed that they are putting together a strategy that will see them capture the Eastern Region in the 2012 elections.

May poll shows Nana Addo still in the lead to win elections

A Senior Researcher at research institution, Synovate Ghana, William Mensah, says if elections were to be conducted by today May 31, flag bearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will triumph over President Mills with 43 percent as against President Mills’ 38 percent.

Mr. Mensah’s outfit, formerly known as Steadman, says research it conducted across the country in May shows that Nana Akufo-Addo is the favourite of people to be President of Ghana.

Speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Tuesday, Mr. Mensah said recent power struggles and verbal sparring in the NDC has not really boosted the chances of the NPP as Nana Addo will win only 43 percent which is quite below the required 50 plus one percent a presidential candidate needs to win an election.

Synovate Ghana conducted a similar research in April this year which put Nana Akufo-Addo in the lead with 43% with President Mills closely behind with 41%.

The May research shows that while Nana Akufo - Addo’s figures have remained constant, President Mills has lost some ground with his percentage reduced to 38%.

The research also revealed that with the exception of the Central Region, Nana Akufo-Addo will win almost all the regions considered to be swing regions in elections.

The figures show that Nana Addo will win 35% as against President Mills’ 32% in the Greater Accra Region, 51% as against 35% in the Brong Ahafo Region, 57% as against 35% while in the Central Region, President Mills scores 44% as against 40% for Nana Addo.

It must indeed be good times for the NPP as the figures also show that the NPP leads in the most favourite party in the country, 44% while the NDC scored 38%.

In the run-up to the NDC Delegates Congress in July Synovate’s research shows that President Mills will win the leadership slot by 70% whiles Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings would score 16%.

The research also discovered that unemployment tops the most serious problems facing Ghanaians today with 39% with high cost of food and fuel coming in second and bribery and corruption coming in third.

About 2,000 Ghanaians, both male and female, who are 18 years and above were interviewed for the survey with about 93% of the interviewees being registered voters.

Only one interview was carried out per household and each respondent spoke for themselves.

GAY ADISCO TEACHER TO BE ARRAIGNED BEFORE COURT

The Mathematics teacher at Adisadel College (ADISCO) in Cape Coast who was dismissed by the school authorities for sodomising some students is being arraigned before court.

The Regional Coordinator of Domestic Violence and Support Unit (DOVVSU) in the Central Region, ASP George Appiah Sakyi, says they are putting together all the evidence against him after which he will be put before court.
The teacher, Richard Atta Panyin alleged to have abused six students of the school but only one of them was bold enough to reveal his ordeal to the authorities.
The activities of Panyin, who is married with three children, came to light when the sick student identified him to the doctor attending to him, who in turn reported the teacher to the ADISCO authorities.

According to reports, Panyin, who had previously taught at St Augustine's College, had been sacked for a similar offence in his previous school before he relocated to ADISCO in late 2010.

However, ASP George Appiah Sakyi says all that is left now is for some of the students who were victims to agree to testify against him in court.

PEOPLE CALLS FOR THE ARREST OF REGISTERED HOMOSEXUALS

Some citizens in the Central Region have call on the President to immediate arrest the registered homosexuals in the region.
According to them, homosexuals have no stay in the country hence the government must take drastic measure to arrest and detain the registered gays.
The people say it infringes on the constitution to have bisexual relationship.
The Cape Coasters made these appeal when the 8000 homosexuals were registered by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the Western and some parts of the Central regions, with majority of them infected with sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including HIV/AIDS.

They include students in junior and senior high schools (JHS/SHS), the polytechnics and workers.

But the people are calling on the government to immediate tackle the issue by arresting them.

In the western region, the people has express their shock in the news that about 2000 gays have registered in the region.
The people caution the government to take immediate steps to punish those individuals.
