CHIEFS PURIFIES BIRIM RIVER TO HALT FURTHER FLOOD DAMAGES

Chiefs and fetish priests of Akyem state and its environs this morning performed the necessary rituals to appease the Birim river god and prevent more flooding in the area.
The performance of the rituals according to locals is necessary to appease the gods who are believed to be angry with residents and chiefs over galamsey activities affecting the river.
The Kontihene of the Akyem Kotoku area who led the delegation to the area, Obrempong Gyamfi Sarfo Kyere II said they believe that rituals will be accepted by the gods.
He however warned that the palace will take drastic steps to punish people who defile the river by committing abortion and using the river as refuse dump.
Adom fm correspondent Kwesi Azor in an interviewed with Obrempong Gyamfi Sarfo Kyere II stressed that they are optimistic that the river will return to its normal level after the rituals.
According to Obrempong Gyamfi Sarfo Kyere II, he was directed by the Kotokuhene Dr Frimpong Manso to offer the gods with a white sheep and 2 schnapps for the rituals.
The rituals became necessary when over 1,000 residents of Akyem Oda were rendered homeless when the Birim River overflowed its banks and flooded some 500 homes.
Among the areas affected were the Oda Asomodwe, Oda Jamaica, Oda Old Town, Pentecost, Kade and Oda Old Town Zongo.
Obrempong Gyamfi Sarfo Kyere II noted that they expect the water banks to return to normalcy by the close of the week.
