WAEC IS RIGHT TO PUBLISH PHOTOs, NAMES OF CHEATING STUDENTS

A legal expert, Lawyer Osei Kwadwo has approved of the West African Examination Council’s (WAEC) decision to publish photos and details of students who engage in examinations malpractices.
He says WAEC has outlined it’s regulations for the exams thus each student who agrees to sit for the exams has to comply with the rules of the examinations.
According to him, any student who plans to sue WAEC for the publication will have no case in court.
Lawyer Osei Kwadwo made these statements in reaction to the numerous calls from child rights activists against the publication of the names and pictures of students who engaged in exam malpractices.
WAEC published the names and photographs of students who were alleged to have been involved in various forms of malpractices during last year’s WASSSCE Nov-Dec examinations in the newspapers.
But Lawyer Osei Kwadwo has slammed child rights activists of accusing WAEC for infringing on the rights of the students.

He adds that WAEC publishes the names to deter future candidates from engaging in examination malpractice.

He challenged the human rights activists to go court to test the law.

The Principal Public Affairs Officer of WAEC, Agnes Teye-Cudjoe says the move is a policy by the council to reduce the incidence of examination malpractices.

She added that the examination malpractice incidents were not alleged cases and that WAEC had undertaken a thorough investigation into the matter before publication.
