Concerned Teachers hit the streets for 4 days despite Court injunction

Members of the group calling itself Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) have embarked on their planned four-day demonstration against the leadership of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), despite Court orders to halt the demonstration.

Spokesperson for the CCT, Norbert Gbogbotsi said though the police went to court to seek an injunction on the demonstration, they have not received any orders from the court to cancel it.

Norbert Gbogbotsi stated that the leaders of GNAT have failed to deliver on their promises to press for better salaries for teachers hence forcing them to go on the four-day demonstration.

He explained that their lawyers urged them to go on the demonstration stating that the Police cannot order them to cancel it but rather postpone it.

Norbert Gbogbotsi said the Police never responded to an earlier notice sent to them to notify them of their intention to embark on the demonstration.

Speaking on Adom Fm’s Dwaso Nsem on Tuesday Norbert Gbogbotsi emphsised that the strike is to press home their charges against the GNAT leaders.

He claimed the leaders of GNAT have amended the constitution to make them occupy their current positions for life, making it difficult for them to be removed from office.

Norbert Gbogbotsi told Kofi Adoma, stand-in host of the programme that, their leaders do not render accounts to the association members.

The spokesperson for the Association accused the leaders for allegedly conniving with the government to place them on the single spine salary structure which he said has made them poorer than before, causing deaths of some of teachers.

Teens Look to Parents as Guide to Healthy Sexual Behaviors

Who do teens look to as role models for healthy sexual behavior? According to a new Canadian study, they look first to the example set by their parents, not to friends or the media.
In their survey of more than 1,100 mothers of teenagers and almost 1,200 teens between the ages of 14 and 17, researchers found that when it comes to sexuality, 45 percent of the teens considered their parents to be their role model, compared to just 32 percent who looked to their friends.
Only 15 percent of the teens said celebrities influenced them, the investigators found.
The researchers also pointed out that the teens who saw their parents as role models most often came from families where talking about sexuality is encouraged. These teens, who were able to discuss sexuality openly at home, were also found to have a greater awareness of the risks and consequences of sexually transmitted diseases.
"Good communication within families and especially around sexual health issues is associated with more responsible behaviors," study author Dr. Jean-Yves Frappier, researcher at the University of Montreal's affiliated CHU Sainte-Justine Hospital Research Centre, said in a university news release.
Despite this finding, the survey showed that 78 percent of the moms questioned believed their children looked to their friends when deciding about sexual behaviors. And the mothers often said that they felt a lack of involvement by their child's father was particularly detrimental.
"Parents seem to underestimate their role and the impact that they have," noted Frappier. "Health professionals and the media have an important role to play in empowering parents and enabling them to increase their communications with their children with regards to sexual health issues."
The survey's findings were slated for presentation Saturday at the Canadian Pediatric Society's 88th Annual Conference in Quebec City.
Because this study was presented at a medical meeting, the data and conclusions should be viewed as preliminary until published in a peer-reviewed journal.

‘FALSE PROPHETS’ CANNOT BE LEGALLY CHARGED - LAWYER

A Constitutional Lawyer, Yaw Anokye Frimpong says there is no law in the criminal code to prosecute anybody who gives false prophecies about elections or lottery.
He explains those prophecies are jokes that cannot be taken seriously in court.
Mr. Frimpong was speaking to the recent prophecy by one Prophet Segbene Xenedzi that Nana Konadu was going to win the NDC primaries and that if she did not win he (the prophet) should be taken to firing squad and killed.

Mr. Frimpong says that since there is no written contract between the Prophet and the people of Ghana, nobody can legally question him for his failed prophecy.
Lawyer Frimpong stated that until someone proves that he has been affected by the prophecies of the prophet, no individual can summon the prophet to court.

Lawyer Yaw Frimpong says anyone who harms the prophet in anyway can be arrest.

It would be recalled that on May 4, when Nana Konadu launched her campaign, the founder and leader of Jesus is Love Children’s Ministry International, Major Prophet Emmanuel Roger Amegayibor also prophesied that the Nana Konadu will win the contest.
He said God revealed the vision to him four months ago that the former first lady would help President Mills to complete his 8-year term.
