OLD GUARDS FOR CPP RACE

The General Secretary of the convention Peoples Party (CPP), William Dowokpor has revealed that Bright Akweitey, Paa Kwesi Nduom, Professor Akosa and George Aguddey have declared their intentions to run for the flagbearship race of the party.
He said the CPP will be parading the ‘old guards’ for the leadership position. For now, Mr Dowokpor stated that they are not expecting new names to for the leadership slot.

He made these statements when today when the CPP announced the deadline for the filing of nomination to contest for leadership positions in the Convention People’s Party.
Already, Samia Nkrumah and incumbent Ladi Nylander have picked their nomination papers for the chairmanship slot.

William Dowokpor noted that as of Friday July 8, 2011, fifteen (15) of the 29 aspirants vying for various leadership positions had filed their nominations. He added that they are expecting the remaining fourteen (14) to file to meet the deadline by 5pm today.

The General Secretary told Adom news that the CPP is scheduled to hold two congresses this year. The first congress to elect national officers will take place from July 23 and 24, 2011 in the Western Regional Capital of Takoradi; while the second congress to elect the party’s Flag bearer for the 2012 elections takes place in Tamale, the Northern Regional Capital on September 30, 2011.
