Concerned Teachers hit the streets for 4 days despite Court injunction

Members of the group calling itself Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) have embarked on their planned four-day demonstration against the leadership of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), despite Court orders to halt the demonstration.

Spokesperson for the CCT, Norbert Gbogbotsi said though the police went to court to seek an injunction on the demonstration, they have not received any orders from the court to cancel it.

Norbert Gbogbotsi stated that the leaders of GNAT have failed to deliver on their promises to press for better salaries for teachers hence forcing them to go on the four-day demonstration.

He explained that their lawyers urged them to go on the demonstration stating that the Police cannot order them to cancel it but rather postpone it.

Norbert Gbogbotsi said the Police never responded to an earlier notice sent to them to notify them of their intention to embark on the demonstration.

Speaking on Adom Fm’s Dwaso Nsem on Tuesday Norbert Gbogbotsi emphsised that the strike is to press home their charges against the GNAT leaders.

He claimed the leaders of GNAT have amended the constitution to make them occupy their current positions for life, making it difficult for them to be removed from office.

Norbert Gbogbotsi told Kofi Adoma, stand-in host of the programme that, their leaders do not render accounts to the association members.

The spokesperson for the Association accused the leaders for allegedly conniving with the government to place them on the single spine salary structure which he said has made them poorer than before, causing deaths of some of teachers.
