ABOAKYIRE FESTIVAL IN LIMBO

There is uncertainty over the celebration of this year’s Aboakyire festival of the people of Winneba.

This is because the two warrior (or Asafo) groups in the town cannot agree on which of them is mandated to go on the deer hunt, which is the highlight of the festival.
Omanehene of the Effutu Traditional Area, Neenyi Ghartey says the Aboakyire festival slated for May 7 will not come on as planned.
He says one Asafo group has decided not to participate because they claim they are always at the losing end. They are always looted at during the festival by the other group.

The Omanehene of Effutu Traditional Area, Neenyi Ghartey says due to Political inference has contributed to the ongoing crisis in the Aboakyire festival.
He explains that some big political wigs in government residing in Winneba are to be blame for the ongoing skirmishes in the community.
Ask if he can mention some of the names of the government officials behind the incidents, Neenyi Ghartey says at the right time he will make public the names of those behind the skirmishes in the area.

However, The Tufuhene of the Effutu traditional area, Nana Otubua Siripi II has discounted claims that this year’s deer hunting festival “Aboakyire” will be called off.
He has therefore assured Ghanaians that all is set for the deer hunting festival come May 1.
According to him, the festival will go on as scheduled, insisting, the police will be notified to provide protection when necessary.

End.
