A member of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the NDC, lawyer John Owusu Agyeman has called on President Mills to resign as the leader of the NDC if he intends to contest for the flagbearer position of the party at its July Congress.
Mr Owusu Agyeman who is also a former Brong Ahafo Chairman of the NDC said since the party's constitution stipulates that any member of the National Executive Committee who intends to contest for any position in the party should resign, President Mills must respect it and act accordingly.
Speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM Thursday, he said “Our Constitution says any NEC member who intends to contest in the race as the flagbearer of the party will first have to resign his position 60 days before the Congress,” he emphasized.
Lawyer Agyeman explained that the constitution makes provision for the Chairman to act in the leader's stead when he resigns until a substantive leader is elected.
Commenting on the resignation of former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings' resignation as First Vice Chairperson of the NDC, he said Nana Konadu’s resignation qualifies her to contest the party’s flagbearership slot for election 2012 as has been her intention.
He also faulted Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives as well as some party members who have made public declarations and endorsed a particular candidate, describing their action as a breach of the Constitution of the party.

BECE CANDIDATE DIES AFTER COMPLAINING OF STOMACH ACHE
One female student writing the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is dead.
The student, identified as Helena Dumor died this morning at the Atebubu Hospital where she was admitted after complaining of a stomach ache whiles writing the Science Paper yesterday.
The cause of death is not yet known.
Meanwhile the Western Regional Minister, Paul Evans Aidoo says 11 students in the region failed to write the ongoing BECE.
Eight out of the 11students were reported to be sick while two of the students were reported to be at the border town in Cote d’Ivoire.
Mr. Evans Aidoo made this known when he toured some of the BECE centres in the region.
In a related development, the Deputy Registrar of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Mr. Kwaku Anane has cautioned students to desist from examination malpractices because it can jeopardize their future.
He says so far, there has not been any incident of exams malpractice and WAEC hopes that it will remain so till the end of the exams.

Concern teachers in the western region have given the executives of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) 72 hours to resign for their own good
Spokesperson of the association, Edwin Selom accused the GNAT and NAGRAT leaders of seeking their own interest to the detriment of thousands of teachers across country.
He said the executives have made the constitution so rigid to make it difficult for them to be impeached, but the teachers will find a way to handle them in due course.
Edwin Selom promised that just like it happened in Egypt, Cote D’Ivoire and Tunisia they will make sure their failed executives leave office.

Allotey Jacobs to Prez Mills : Sack KATH Boss
The Communications Director of the NDC in the Central Region, Allotey Jacobs has called for the immediate dismissal of the Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Professor Ohene Adjei, for involving himself in active partisan politics.
Prof. Ohene Adjei publicly described NPP flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as a war monger during a meeting with NDC party faithful.
But Allotey Jacobs said that was a violation of the constitution which prohibits civil servants from doing active politics. “The professor did not respect his office as a civil servant and he must be dismissed,” he said on Adom Dwaso Nsem.
Allotey Jacobs said the behavior of the professor was unfortunate and does not auger well for the development of the hospital and the country as a whole.
His call was not different from that of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Frederick Fredua Anto, who was worried that the behavior of the KATH Boss could deny the hospital of valuable support from philanthropists who do not sympathize with the NDC.
“KATH enjoys great support from institutions and individuals who do not necessarily support the NDC and when these people get to know that the CEO is doing politics they will withdraw their support and the hospital will suffer for the indiscretion of one man,” Mr. Ato said.
But the Ashanti Regional General Secretary of the NDC, Joseph Yamin insists that the KATH boss did no wrong in expressing his opinion about the “all die be die” statement by Nana Addo.
He said it was no secret that top positions in the civil service are political appointments so Prof. Ohene Adjei was not wrong in making open political statements like his predecessor, Prof. Nsiah Asare did when he was in office.
Mr. Yamin alleged that he had in the past been on a number of radio talk shows with Prof. Nsiah Asare who openly articulated positions in support of the NPP and against the NDC.
But Prof. Nsiah Asare denied ever doing open partisan politics when he was CEO of KATH under the NPP, adding that he had never been on the same panel with Mr. Yamin on radio and challenged him (Yamin) to provide evidence to support his claims.

Anthony Karbo: NDC supported Gbagbo
The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Abayifaa Karbo has alleged that the NDC supported captured Ivorian President, Laurent Gbagbo’s refusal to accept last November elections and hold on to power.
“NDC basically were on Gbagbo’s side and defended him to hold on to power even though the whole world including ECOWAS, the African Union and European Union advised him to respect the decision of the Electoral Commission.
“Even US President, Barack Obama personally called Mr. Gbagbo to step down but he refused. It is only the NDC which saw him as the winner of the November elections,” Anthony Karbo says.
Speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM Tuesday, Mr. Karbo alleged that some government officials like Deputy Interior Minister, Kobby Acheampong and NDC functionaries like Allotey Jacobs have publicly declared their support for Gbagbo.
However in a rebuttal, the Central Regional Communications Director of the NDC, Allotey Jacobs, said both UN recognized President, Alassane Ouattara and Laurent Gbagbo should be blamed for the bloodshed in Cote D’Ivoire.
He said Alassane Ouattara should have exercise patience for negotiations to have concluded so that Mr. Gbagbo would have handed over power to him peacefully but he did not.
Allotey Jacobs also blamed the French governmen for interfering in the conflict saying that the West should have allowed Africans to manage their own affairs.
But Anthony Karbo rubbished the statement stating that if we go to the West when we need financial assistance, there is no reason why they can’t also assist if there are conflicts on our continent.
He explained that European countries play a vital role in the developmental agenda of the African continent so they equally have a say at the governance level especially if there are some challenges.
About 800 people have been confirmed dead with 2 million people fleeing the country since violence erupted in the Ivory Coast following the disputed election.
Incumbent, Laurent Gbagbo’s capture on Monday by French forces is expected to aid in moving the country forward.
