IT’S BETTER TO BUILD FOR EX-PRESIDENTS- DR AKOM

The Head of governance and leadership at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Dr Kwaku Akom says it will profit the nation if former Presidents residents are built rather than been rented out.
He says it will cost the nation hundreds of cedis if government decides to rent out apartments for ex-presidents.
Dr Kwaku Akom was reacting to a suggestion proposed by President Mills for the immediate scrapping of the current arrangement which makes the state to build houses for Presidents of the country after they have served their tenure.

President Mills suggested that rent allowances be paid to former Presidents to cater for their accommodation, beginning from the end of his tenure.

The President made the proposal to the Professor Ewurama Addy Committee to deal with article 71 office holders.
But Dr Akom thinks that the security of the former President is at risk if their apartments are rented.

Meanwhile, A research fellow at IMANI Ghana, Kofi Bentil says it’s not for the President to make such suggestions but the people of Ghana to make that decision.
He stated that the committee should be left along to do their work.
