ASHANTI REGIONAL CHAIRMAN RECEIVE DEATH THREATENS PRIOR TO JUNE 4

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Dr. Yaw Owusu Bimpeh has disclosed his shock at text messages threatening to kill him before the July congress in Sunyani.
Dr. Yaw Owusu Bimpeh says he believes the anonymous death threats are aimed at intimidating him to support certain candidates at congress.
He cited particularly his support for President Mills ahead of the congress as the main reason for the treats he is receiving.
He condemned such threats adding that such practices will affect the unity of the party especially as the party seeks a second term in office.
He made these comments in an interview with Adakabre Frimpong Manso on Dwaso Nsem.
He repeated his support for president Mills adding that it has become a convention to allow the incumbent president to represent the party without a contest and does not allow why the former first lady is contesting the flag bearer.

Meanwhile, the Asante regional secretary of the NDC, Joseph Yamin says he suspects certain dubious people to behind the threats based on the position taken by the chairman.
Joseph Yamin explained that though he does not support the idea of party executives endorsing candidates, he believes that the party constitution as they were adopted at the La congress should be observed.
