Only scientists should be involved in politics – Prof Akosa

Professor of Pathology at the University of Ghana Medical School and former Director General of the Ministry of Health, Agyemang Badu Akosa says scientists should be the only professionals allowed to take part in politics.

According to him, scientists have better problem solving skills and are also adept at finding and diagnosing problems and looking for the answers.

Speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM on Tuesday, Professor Akosa told host Frimpong Manso Adakabre that if scientists are allowed to fully participate in politics, Ghana will develop at a more rapid pace citing Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Israel and Singapore as examples of countries which have been transformed by scientists who have been leaders.

He said in his opinion, Ghana has only two major problems, Environmental sanitation and malnutrition which can easily be solved by people in the sciences.

Also on the same show, Member of Parliament for Manhyia, Matthew Opoku Prempeh also said politics should not be left for only legal experts.

He said Parliament should not only be made up of teachers and lawyers but all professional bodies so that the country can have equal representation for its development.

Mr Opoku Prempeh said any individual who has the love for country should be able to involve him or herself in politics adding that it will help the country to develop faster because all hands will be on deck.
