OBIRI BOAHEN: IT IS OKAY FOR POLITICIANS TO OWN MEDIA HOUSE

Prominent Politician, Lawyer and Former Minister of State, Nana Obiri Boahen says the country’s democratic values does not prevent politicians from owning media houses.
He explains that media houses owned by politicians rather allow people to share their views on the democratic process and that rather deepens he country’s democracy.
The former minister was reacting to call by a Legal practitioner; Akoto Ampaw that Parliament should promulgate a law to ban politicians from owning radio and television stations in the country.
According to him, the upsurge of electronic media owned by politicians is a dangerous practice and could undermine the country’s democratic process and irresponsible journalism.
